It’s been a while since our last Shooter Spotlight, but we’ve got a good one for our return. Juza is a young professional nature photographer (its easy to see why) whose wildlife and landscape images are simply stunning. I can’t remember how I found out about him, but it’s clear this kid has an eye for beauty, a talent for capturing it, and the passion for bringing it all together. I find it interesting that his camera of choice is a 7D, as opposed to any of the 1-series. Dive into this interview to find out more about the young shooter from Italy…

Tell us about yourself:
I am a professional nature photographer; I like everything from landscapes to macro and wildlife. I often travel to take photos of exotic subjects.
How did you get started? I was born in Italy in 1985 and I have always been fascinated by nature, travel, exploration. I got my first SLR, a Nikon N60 film camera, in 1999, so I begun taken photos of nature subjects. Initially photography wasn’t my passion – I toke photos just to “record” the subject on film, but with time I have got more and more involved into photography, that now has become my great passion and work.
Favorite camera and lens? Why? Currently my favorite camera is the Canon 7D, it has a great price/performance ratio! It is fast, it has good photo and video quality, and it has all the functions I need. I don’t have a single favorite lens, my “top four” are Sigma 8-16, Canon 24-105, Canon 180 Macro and Canon 300 f/2.8 L IS.
If you could shoot anywhere/anyone/anything, what would it be? I’d love to do underwater photography, a genre that I admire but currently I don’t practice. Another dream is to visit the Giant Crystal Cave in Mexico, but sadly it is impossible
What’s your shooting style? I like vivid colors, clean background, sunrise light and dramatic landscapes. I post process my photos to give my personal interpretation to the scene, in particular for landscapes.
What’s your favorite photo? Why? The Red Eye Tree Frog…it has all the elements I like, in particular a unbelievable combination of colors!
What’s your most memorable shooting gig? Nearly all my travels have been a great shooting experience; maybe one of the coolest experiences has been the test of the gigantic Sigma 200-500 f/2.8, that I have published here.
Who is your favorite photographer? Why? Ronnie Gaubert, in my opinion he is the best macro photographer of the world, and he is a very kind person, too! Other photographers that I admire are Arthur Morris, John Shaw and Marc Adamus.
What does the future hold for you? The work is going well so I hope that it goes on like this. I want to travel all around the world
